China Inks Agreement to Buy One Million Ton of Cassava Product from Cambodia

The China National Food Industry (Group) and Cambodia’s Le Ye Rubber on August 13th signed a Memorandum of Understanding on a cooperation agreement to acquire one million cassava product exports from Cambodia to China… Cai Yong Feng [President of China National Food Industry Group] said: “Cambodia-China bilateral cooperation in cassava is highly complementary. China is the biggest consumer of cassava which imported more than 8 million tons last year including 6.5 million tons from Thailand and 1.6 million from Vietnam, but has no importing form Cambodia. The company hopes to cooperate with Cambodia’s exports to break the record in Cambodia.”… [Kith Seng , undersecretary of State for Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries] stressed that Cambodia’s population is 14 million people in whom 80 percent of them are engaged in agriculture production and agriculture accounted for 30 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country so that agriculture takes an important role in the development of the country. According to a report from the Agriculture Ministry, Cambodia yielded 3.78 million tons of cassava products last year. Dry cassava product is becoming a good source for trade dealers to export.
